For my last garment I make during my time in high school, I wanted to do something special. All semester we have worked in class to create a collection, brand, mood board, and tons of research to ideally present our final project to friends and family in an art show. Although the show wasn't able to happen, my classmates and I still wanted to complete the project. At the beginning of the semester, each designer came up with a concept for our collection and then sketched out outfits we would potentially construct to wear. My concept was "life of the party" I came up with this idea at the start of the year, going off of the glamorous and "roaring" 1920s. Everyone had an idea in their mind that 2020 would be an amazing year full of memories. This made me think of the elaborate parties that Gatsby would throw in the 1920s. At these parties people would be having so much fun that they would lose track of time and never want the night to end. The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite movies, and I loved how everything in Gatsby's house and at his parties was full of detail. I wanted to bring this into my collection by mixing flashy details with timeless colors and cuts. I wanted these clothes to be worn for modern day women who love to go out and live their life to the fullest.
After I completed my sketches for my collection, I decided that I would construct my third outfit. I love the retro look to this mini dress. I gave the dress flared sleeves and a flare at the hem to create a visual going from the slim-fitting top, down to the curve of the hem. I used a pink, green, and black floral sequined fabric. I like how the fabric has bright, colorful details while also being balanced out by the black sequins and black feathers on the sleeve. I ran out of time to finish sewing the dress on my sewing machine at school, so I ended up hand sewing the neckline and I decided to keep a rough edge on the bottom hem of the dress. I paired the dress with black mesh tights and black ankle boots. I love the stylish and unique look of the outfit, perfect for someone who wants to be the "life of the party!"
